{ Rainy Day Portrait Party }

Who says you can't have a portrait session in the rain? Not me! I love to use umbrellas as props, and as long as the temperature is warm enough, what child doesn't love splashing in puddles? This summer we certainly had some rainy days...one of those happened to be a day scheduled for a Portrait Party. The guests still came, we used umbrellas, and trees as cover, and when the rain came in a downpour we took a little 10 minute break. Some of my favorite images from 2010 came from this Portrait Party!
So if you are concerned about what rain will do to your portrait session, do not fear, I promise to always make your images look the best! This is the best part of natural light, outdoor photography, you never know what your gonna get ;)

{ And Still More Summer! }

This first family had a very spunky 2 year old little girl, and who doesn't love a spunky 2 year old? She was a little shy at first, then a ham, than we captured some nice pouty faces, and some great family shots! I look forward to photographing their whole family again...maybe this Winter? No one ever thinks about scheduling winter sessions, but they can be a lot of fun, and beautiful! If you would like to schedule a Winter session, call me and we can chat about the details :) But enough about Winter, more Summer!!

This family, I have had the pleasure of working with since mommy was pregnant with baby #2, and big brother was still a baby himself. It always amazes me how fast kids seem to grow! We met at a Park in Middleton on a perfectly clear day and had fun running, playing, and more running, and more playing. These two little boys really keep their parents on their toes!

{ Happy Birthday Miss 'S'! }

Okay, so I am a little late in wishing this cutie a Happy Birthday, but it wasn't that long ago :)

Miss 'S' turned ONE in July, and she is one of those babies who I have gotten to watch grow up! In honor of Miss 'S' I have put my favorite images together in a little collage, and her Birthday Images turned out beautiful! Who needs 99 red balloons, when you have 2 pink ones :)

{ Still More Summer!! }

I have a few extra minutes to spare, so here are some more summer session showcases!!

First is little 'B', I took pics of his sister back in February and was supposed to take pictures of him too, but a day before the session he fell and cut his face, so we postponed until the summer, and here he is...a little shy at first, but was totally cute in all his typical boyish behavior, i.e., boots and umbrella with the sun out, still so cute!!! ;)

Next we have the 'H' Family, who I met at Vilas Park. It was a great day for a photoshoot, with the exception of the horrible mosquitos that decided to eat us alive! The kids did great though (with the help of those wonderful goldfish crackers), ah goldfish, what would we do with out you! I just love the image of mom and dad pointing at me and smiling, while their kids both look back at them, goldfish scattered around them. It just goes to show that not every picture turns out the way I envision, but sometimes I end up with something much better!

Still more to come...

{ A Little More Summer? }

I know that the weather has turned cooler, and school has started and Christmas decorations are out in the stores, but I am still going to hold on to summer as long as I can...which is great, because I still have so many sessions from the summer to showcase!

Let's start with the 'L' Family. They were so much fun to photograph, and Big Brother was so good at listening and taking direction...can you say future model?! Little Sister ended up falling asleep, and we got some great shots right before the raindrops came.

After leaving the 'L' Family, I drove into Madison to meet the 'H' Family. Again, another wonderful family with very photogenic kids. I met them at Wingra Park, which is a place I had never had a session. I love photographing at new locations, so I was very excited to try out some new things. Thanks 'H' Family for being so willing to try new things, and get a little silly!

More summer sessions to come, stay tuned...

{ First Day of School! }

Well, it's finally happened. My little baby has grown up and become a "School-ager"!!

This week was filled with Parent Meetings, Open Houses, School Supplies, Lunch Packing, going to bed early/getting up early, more parent meetings/forms/paperwork, but in the end it was all worth it, to see my son wave good-bye to me with a smile on his face, and then be sad that its Friday, and he won't get to go to school for "2 whole days, that's a long time mommy."

I think my favorite part of this week, was when my daughter wanted to be in the pictures, and she was jumping up and down with as much excitment as her brother...I think she is not so secretly glad to have me all to her self, and even more glad to have space from a brother who constantly picks on her ;)

So begins the journey of the rest of his life!

{ 1 Year Old Friends }

Again, this session was a while ago, it was actually one of the hottest days in May. By the end of the session the babies were sweaty, red-cheeked, and done with pictures.

The mommies of the babies were really good friends, so they shared their session, and we were able to get some images of the two babies together as well.

{ Monona Terrace...Here we Come! }

The Monona Terrace is one of the most popular locations in Madison for portraits, whether it be for families, weddings, or seniors. I love to photograph at the terrace, the key is to schedule that session early in the morning when no one is there yet, because as most Madisonians know, the Terrace gets really crowded on nice summer days :)

This family happened to schedule right in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday...luckily we were able to find an empty pier, and some grassy areas to get some images without too many 'strangers' in the background.

{ 2 Little Girls }

At first Mom and Dad did not know how their little girls were going to do during the session. 2 & 3 year olds are a fun age to photograph, but they can also be challenging, as they are in the "independent" stage, and like to do what they want to do :)

Mom and Dad had nothing to worry about, we took the time to get the kids warmed up to the camera, (and me), and if we had some tears here and there, you would never know it from looking at the images. I had a lot of fun, and I know they did too.

Many people ask me for location ideas, and I have a ton! This session was taken at one of my favorite spots in Verona. Actually, all of my favorite locations happen to be open fields, old barns, and mature landscapes. That's really all you need, as most of the focus is the child and not the scenery. Although, with little ones, sometimes how they react to the scenery is a great image in iteself, i.e., looking through an old window, wading in the water at the Beach, etc.
